Website Idea's
Thankyou James.. I know that the phone still works at HQ .. but will have to seek the District permission to use it to update website from HQ.. Its a very basic website .. but its a start and its free.. If you goto links and goto Mepal Competition 2006 you will see that the pictures were part of what you took as our budding Scout Photographer.

Wildfowl Centre at Welney
Date 27/09/06 - Tonight our Scouts, one Explorer and a Beaver visited the Wildfowl Centre at Welney. Though dark we were given a tour of the observation area and told about when the swans from Iceland and Russia should be arriving late November, when the lakes will have around 1500 swans for the Winter. We then went down to the centre and everyone had ago at pond dipping. Amongst the pond weeds, was a fish, water bugs and leaches, dragonfly nymph and water boatman... then the scouts made bird feeders to take home to their gardens..

2nd Chatteris & 2nd Wisbech May Camp 2007
On 4th May to 6th May at Three Fishes campsite in March, two Scout Groups from Fenland District did a joint camp. For some it was there first time camping. For others it was a practice camp for them to get ready for a Brownsea Island camp at the end of May to celebrate 100 Years of Scouting, where it all began 100 years ago by our founder Baden Powell. The camp was a success, including a Hike and Camp Cook Badge. Three Scouts from the 2nd Wisbech and 1 Explorer was invested on the Sunday.

1st Day Events at Mepal 2008
The Scouts and Explorer's got wet as the 1 and 2 Star Kayaking began in the morning. Though the water was cold and there were some 1st timers who were nervous but enjoyed the challenge. In the afternoon, they had Archery and Wall Climbing, despite several attempts of hitting a cup off the targets, only Oliver and Me, yes Skip with just one arrow did it. Don't expect me on the High Ropes on Sunday. Well done to all for trying new things and doing there best.

Mepal Weekend Saturday 11th April 2008
Right First off this comment will be grammatically correct because I'm being spell checked Anyways Onto what I'm here Too Do. Mepal Activity Weekend. Saturday. Morning Kayaking Started Off Getting Suited Up This Part Is Usually Quite Funny Because Almost Always There Is Someone Who Cannot Get Their Wetsuit On Names Include Charlie Crowson The Instructor (Bob) Lifted Charlie By His Wetsuit and shook him into it, Zowie Freear Couldn't Get Hers on And Thus Ex-Bosun Had Too Venture Into The Changing Rooms Too Help Her. When We Got Onto The Water We Were Split Into Two Groups One Group Of Cool People Who Wore Spray Decks And One who Were Pansies And didn't... In The Groups We Went Back Over Basic Skills Learning How Too Paddle Forward Effectively. Philip Was Caused Some Discomfort By The Size Of His Boat. The Rest Of Us Were Caused Discomfort By Bobs Lack Of Insulting Vocabulary, Nancy Slapper, Flip-Flop being as deep as his insults went. Afternoon Climbing. Well Certainly my most successful climbing trip yet. Out of the four walls i tried I Managed Too Get To The Top Of 3 Joshua Pitcher Topped Four. Phillip Topped One James Geddis Topped Two Zowie Topped One Charlie Topped One And Hannah Topped Two I Was Caused Incredible Discomfort Due Too My Shoulder Joint And Being Hung From The Rope In Those Darned Harnesses...Grrr.. Archery (2nd Afternoon Session) Well This Was Funny We Had About 3 Goes Each At Shooting The Target With 6 Arrows And Unlimited Goes Taking Pot Shots at The Instructor With Insults! The Insults Mainly Dealt With His 'The North Face' Hat, And His Ostrich Trainers! He Did Not React But Did However Enact Vengeance On The Sole Benefactor Of His Torment The Day After During The High Rope Challenge. We Then Aimed At A Cup Named After Someone They Hated Mr John Bennett & Mr Peter White Were The Main Culprits In This Exercise. But Seeing As We All Missed And The Cups Looked Smug We Repeatedly Stabbed Them Into Micro PArticles Anyway Well There Sundays Events Will Be Blogged Tomorrow! Goodbye & Goodnight. Skip Has Already Posted One But Mines Cooler ;) The Big Words Were Possible Thanks Too Safari Spell Check :D

2nd Day Events at Mepal 2008
Great to see some "Blog", hey I can be cool. as in don't "Diss your parents". Anyway what a great day had by all, these so many moments that showed "Always do there best" and "Up for the Challenge". The Kayaking Instructor's informed me that everyone doing well today in the water. But the highlight for those watching the "High Ropes" was the Explorer's and Scout's. James N, James G or "Little John" its a Robin Hood thing, Hannah, Joshua, Zowie and Philip getting to the top. Also I was so impressed with Ian, and who can forget Stephanie who both followed in the Explorer's foot steps and got to the top. The rest also managed to have a go and though very nervous they too gave it a go. You all get a weekend off before, Shooting, Fencing, Kayaking 1 and 2 Star, Sailing and do a event where they get lost!! beginning with "O". B.R.A.V.O

mepal weekend
As this was my first time at mepal I was a bit scared. First thing i did was kayaking. I had to be shook into my wetsuit! (courtesey of Bob) I was a little worried when I first got into the kayak it was very wobbly and I was sure that I would fall out - and what happened, in the middle of the lesson I capsized, it all happened so quickly that before I knew it I was floating on top of the water. I actually really enjoyed it and was proud of travelling 6 miles on the second day. I really enjoyed the archery and found that I was quite good. The hardest activity was the high ropes, I did try my best but did not quite get to the top - maybe next time (and for those who called me chicken - watch this space!!) Lastly thank you very much to Skip for arranging it and to Kim to giving me a lift.

Mepal
Just to say the the weekend at mepal was great. It felt good to get back into a kayak after so long (ignoring one or two problems). Not a fan of rock climbing but getting to the top of a wall for the first time was excellent. My arms are still hurting from the overhang wall. Archery, well I found that I'm alot better if i use a right-handed bow istead of my usual lefty one. High ropes was the highlight of the weekend. I proved to the disbelievers that I have a fear of falling and not a fear of heights, meaning the climbing was fine but jumping for the trapeze was impossible for me. Decent instructors, one with a strange dress sense and was convinced a bicycle helmet was a climbing one. All in all an excellent weekend and others (Lewis) should have been there!

The Weekend at Mepal (was so Fun) ='])

May Camp 2008
Just got in and having my first cup 17:30 .. To have a parent from Chatteris say that her son said its the best camp he ever had.. well took my breath away.. When you tied and know scouts are tied after a great camp, it gave me the strength with just a few of us to get that Marquee down and packed into the trailer. From Setting up Camp, on Friday, having a Rope Bridge constructed (Thankyou Gavin), Camp Fire 1st attempt, too watching from afar the scouts cooling off after the 3.5 Mile hike with the odd detour, then Camp Fire 2nd attempt (James best so far). The evening meals were spot on by the Patrol's, and finally after the Shooting Competition today and the awards. I want to thank my Wife Janet who like me on Friday at 11am were shopping for 21 people at Camp. Off now to rest before Wednesday. Bravo to all the Scouts, Its not the winning that matter's, its the taking part that counts.

White Water Canoeing with 1st March + 2nd Chatteris
What a fun wet and enjoyable day our three Scout Groups had. With everyone trying this water experience at least once mentioning no names. Hannah did go down twice. I was very impressed with some scouts and explorer's helping other scouts in this event. I am sure 2009 will see our three groups join together again to do this event. Also big Thankyou to Dink and Simon B.B.Q skills, great tucker... Skip (Photo's will go on asap)

Boat Trip Down the Nile or Fen's
Well what a great day had by the pirates of Wisbech and Chatteris Scouts. Five boats took them plus us leaders from March to Whittlesey and Back. The weather was great, though bit windy. With a quiz to pass the lovely journey by boat and to use a lock was great. All scouts that took part achieved Nautical Skills Badge and also covering part of the Power Coxswain Badge. Bravo Skip Highlight for me was seeing a King Fisher.

Fire and Police Visit's 2008
Just a quick blog to say thankyou to Wisbech Fire station and Julie Clarke of Wisbech Police tonight for giving the Scouts a insight to what life like being a Police Officer. Those Cells didn't look inviting. Some good questions were put forward by some of the scouts, including "What if my Dog went missing" Answer, if collared with name tag or chipped.. They would be able to trace the owner.

re: Tall Ships' Races 2008 Bergen to Den Helder
The tall ships' races were great despite, force 9 gales staright at us we struggled through with sheer determination. The best part of the trip has got to be the ships idiot/verbal diarrhoea A.K.A James Nott nearly suffocating to death in Philips sleeping bag! A close second when he threw a packet of chocolate angel delight straight at another member of the opposing crew member covering the boat in chocolate dust which was extremely funny because he kept a straight face on the whole time >.<! And I had many criticisms about my cooking abilities and me saying the word 'ella' im glad i didnt get thrown overboard! We were all so tired! In the end we finished behind the opposing boat but the sheer experience of the trip was FAB! Despite myself saying this is a one time thing i think with the crew that we had this year i would do it again for definate! We will have to get even more wisbech scouts there next year!

Tall Ships Race 2008
Greatest exprience of my life so far! so many things happend on the boat I called home for 2 wweks (Ocean Scout if you haven't already gathereed that). The Skipper and 1st mate said it was the hardest sailing they have done due to the weather, with force 9 gales and even having no wind for 12 hours. so many new sights were saw, the brighest stars I have ever seen, a meteor shower, a pod of Pilot Whales, Porpoises and yes, attempted suicide involving a Sleeping bag. Yup, James Nott tied himself into my sleeping bag and couldn't breath and therefore had to be cut out of it (after agreeing to pay me for a new one). It was tough, we all made freinds with the sick bucket at some point and as entering the port we all fell asleep in the saloon as we were waiting to go and help tie us to the dock. This was made worth-while when we actually got to go and see Den Helder. The atmosphere there was amazing, everyone was freindly and oddly all spoke english which made things easier for us (lazy Brittish ^^). This lead to another "James Nott moment". The crew from the other boat caome aboad and were making a mess after we spent 2 hours cleaning it (¬¬). then one of them poked a box of chocolate Angle Delight onto James. James picked up the box and threw it at the guy. The box EXPLODED in the most spectacular way which managed to cover a huge area of the saloon, which we clean up. but revenge was sereved as the skipper ordered James to be forcefully pulled up onto the deck, stripped to his underwear and then had buckets of water thrown at him. the parade though the town was awesome as we attempted to out shout a 150 man crew with "oggy oggy oggy" and started huge mexican wave along the line. I will definately go again next year because it was an amazing expirience and (because of the flags) there is a little piece of Wisbech in Holland!

One more thing
World of Warcraft led us to get a grand tour of one of the big Square Riggers called "Staatsrad Lamkuhl" which was like a town on a boat. It had 3 Workshops with Spanners the size of our Arms, night clubs, bars, shops and so many bedrooms. And Ove Malestrom (the guy who gave us the tour) had an AMAZING beard ^^.

Tall Ships Race 2008
To sum-up my experience of the Tall Ships Race 2008, Bergen; Met our 1st and 2nd Mates (and our boat), Parade of sail was a laugh 'cause we were supposed to follow the Estelle.... we didn't and set off for the start(postponed for 2 hours ¬_¬). The Race; Quick start with fast winds towards Aberdeen, sadly, winds died off the Scottish coast inducing a 12-hour standstill (¬_¬), winds picked up again but not the way we needed, Forcing us to tack down the course line towards the finish. doubling the time and effort (during this time James managed to pull the cords and the sleeping bag itself over him as he struggled to breathe inside:L) anyway, we finished 9th in class, 36th overall. not bad for first time eh?. Den Helder; Spectacular welcome, Fireworks and Crew Party. Lols for Angel Delight!

Tall ships
The tall ships race was truly amazing and i have no doubt i will take part in it again , obviously my favorite part was listening to james nott slowly suffocating in a not so cheap sleeping bag , crew parade was excellent i wouldnt be able to choose between holland and norway because they are both lovely countries with fantastic people within them met some brilliant people along the way ian ,matt , robin ,mark ,all very fun , honest people , very pleasurable to be around and work with , i would like to congratulate everyone it was incredibly tough at sea and im sure you'll agree the experiences in den helder were easily worth all the work , well done everyone i had an absolutlely brilliant time and we've all gotta do it again sometime.

Forth Activity, Oh this Was So Weird And Confusing, 5 Tires Numbered To 5, And 3 Posts. Had To Get Them To The Other Post, But There Is Not Allowed To Be A Number Lower Than A number, Below Each Other, So 2 wasnt allowed to be on top of 1. I Was So Scared, i fell Off Twice, But because I Was Holding Onto Philip He Pulled me back Up ,Yes We Did Get A Little Edgey But It Was Very Scary Up There, Trust Me. But It Was Fun When Joe The Instructer Kncoked It Down, We Broke The Fence With The Crates Force xD The Picture Might Be Up Soon, I Dont know When :] Seventh And Last Activity, We Were Climbing Up Jacobs ladder. Which Got Further Apart, The Higher You Went. i Went With Geddis When I Had A go, We Got Up To The Third One, Out Of Seven, I Gave Myself A fat Lip Though, I Head butted The Log With My Mouth, By Accident Thoguh, OVERALL Great Fun, You Lot Missed Out..

Mepal Team Building for Explorer's
Firstly I like to say thank you to my daughter, who stepped in to rescue this fun team building event with Philip, Robert, James G and James B oh and me.. At first I was feeling a bit down , I read the Explorer's program and was doing everything by the guideline, Explorers like Scout do outdoor activity as part of a healthy living, (When i was there age, no computers, games consoles) but having taken part in the trust trail myself, had a great fun though covered in mud. Great to see the team work together and with 25 x 4 crates tower , Philip and Hannah with James B and B Laying (Keeping the climbers ropes going up when they go up) and James G throwing , yes throwing the crates upto them to achieve this great tower .. BRAVO for a great day ... SKIP

Events that made me proud 2008
What can I say to this title, so many to choose, The Mepal Competition, Scouts winning the Go-Carting with Thomas, Ryan, Joshua and Hannah, Explorers winning Polo and Archery, Steph and Jenna up in the air solo with Charley and Ian also Explorer's parascending. White Water canoeing, seeing the Explorers and Scouts having taken part, in the water helping others down the course. The weekend camp and James N great fire, James N, James G and Lewis cycle ride for Sue Ryder Charity. Steph reaching the top of the high ropes at Mepal, and Joshua leaping onto the trapeze with Zoe losing her shoe when she did it. Philip, James N, Robert, James G and Lewis sailing round the world, well sort of, as a parent felt like it as they took part in the Tall Ship Race 2008. The Explorer Mepal Team Building saw the Tower Building at the High Ropes completed. For cub parents who have cubs soon to link up to Scouts, you will see that i am proud of what scouting can help them achieve. I am looking forward to 2009 and what challenges it holds for me as a Leader as well as those Tents ... B.R.A.V.O SKIP

Explorer Activity Day on 23rd May '09
Well firstly , and I think I speak for the 8 Explorer's who came (Places limited to 8) that a great time was had by all and the weather was lovely. They were split into four groups and did four activities - Archery, Backwood Cooking, Target Shooting and Pioneering (a Tower, must have been 18 feet high?), after that they cooked a evening meal and to finish, a camp fire and camp songs. Activity day 23rd may 09
Just want to say, i had a great day on saturday. shame the other explorers from wisbech didnt go, i think they would have enjoyed it as much as i did. First our group (group2) did archery, in which i come second in the group we got split up into. Backwood cooking was second, using potatoes, bananas, apples, eggs, chocolate spread and cheese, cooking on a open fire. Thirdly we done target shooting and forthly we done Pioneering. We cooked our evening meal and found out garlic bread is not that bad when cooked on open fire but you have to wrap it up in quite a bit of tin foil. Plus if your cooking for skip just remember hes a picky eater =D. Lastly we was singing songs around a boiling campfire and eatting toasted marsh mellows thanks to philip. So thanks everyone for a enjoyable day cant wait for the next one. LUCY
